Business Development Associate - Energy and Environment
Job Description:
An opportunity to join a team focused on fostering transatlantic business relations in the Energy & Environment sector between the US and its top economic partner in Europe.
UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is the United Kingdom Government’s international business development agency. UKTI USA, working closely with UKTI and other agencies in the UK and with representatives of the English Regions and of the UK’s Devolved Administrations in the US, is charged with the promotion of transatlantic trade development between the UK and the US.
UKTI USA is run from headquarters in New York, and is supported by a network of Regional Teams. The advertised post is a Business Development Associate (BDA) supporting the New York Team’s Trade and Investment Officer for Energy & Environment. The team is based at the British Consulate-General in New York.
The BDA will work as part of a team responsible for the Energy & Environment sector in the New York region; along with assisting the Trade & Investment Officer (TIO) US wide in relation to the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games. The focus will be to assist US companies looking to expand internationally using the UK as an inward investment location and to assist in generating and delivering chargeable client work for UK companies looking to enter the US market.
MAIN JOB FUNCTIONS: Write and compile reports on specific topics relating to market developments, best routes to market and potential US business partners for UK companies looking to enter the US market. Through research and marketing activity, proactively identify potential investors in the Energy & Environment sectors that would be interested in setting up or expanding their operations in the UK. Make initial contact, compile visit programs and plan company meetings for TIO. Attend meetings where appropriate and assist in management of client relationships. Build and maintain knowledge of developments and trends in the Energy & Environment sectors in both the US and the UK and manage a database of key contacts in the industry. Assist with initiatives such as the development and execution of trade missions, panel discussions, receptions, key Olympic activity and other events to promote the UK. Provide operations support by responding appropriately to information requests and inquiries, monitoring email, and addressing other communications that contribute to UKTI’s ability to proactively and reactively respond to the needs of UK & US industry. Manage various project development cycles. Liase with both internal teams and external contacts at an executive level. Contribute when necessary to activities carried out by the wider NY – UKTI team and the US-wide Clean Tech and Energy teams.
Job Requirements:
Ability to work in a team. Proficiency of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and Internet Explorer Knowledge of US or UK business environment and/or events management is highly desirable Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders or A Visa holders. SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) 1-3 years full-time professional experience in international business, with a proven track record of fostering business relationships. Excellent research ability, reading comprehension, and topical summary skills Proactive self-starter able to work under limited day-to-day supervision in a deadline sensitive, high production environment.
