Mainstream is currently recruiting for a Director, Environmental, Health and Safety to provide safety program subject matter expertise in planning, construction and operation of Mainstream’s onshore wind farms and associated works. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all applicable federal, state and local safety policies, procedures and plans are implemented. The Director, EHS will plan, implement, monitor and review the protective and preventative measures that will ensure Mainstream’s business activities are carried out in a safe manner with the target zero lost time incidents and zero accidents.
Key Responsibilities and Activities
* Understand, promote and adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations and policies in undertaking all activities.
* Carry out safely audits, risk assessments and incident investigations which identify and take account of all relevant hazards.
* Assist in the preparation and review of contract documentation and scopes of work and in the selection and management of contractors.
* Proactively keep up to date with all latest developments and new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all the Health & Safety legislation and any developments that affect Mainstream’s business activities.
* Inform management about relevant H&S legislation, guidance and precedents associated implications in relation to onshore development.
* Implement and review ergonomics requirements for all construction and operations activities.
* Work with H&S Manager to promote Mainstream culture of continuous HS&E improvement and to share good practice across the company. Plan practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial, of promoting health and safety and safe working practices.
* Assure all initial and annual required training is conducted for all employees. Assure contractors provide all applicable training to comply with MRP safety plans and policies.
* Respond to consultations and contribute to external studies/research/working groups as appropriate.
* Proactively engage with stakeholders, partners, industry, trade associations such as AWEA and regulators on H&S issues.
* Responsible for the Environmental compliance of all North American operating units and locations.
* Liaise with partners and other Mainstream colleagues (finance, engineering) to ensure projects are designed and developed to be practical, safe and efficient pose minimum impact for the environment or stakeholders.
* Design and support a range of prevention and training measures to improve safety.
* Develop occupational safety elements of integrated H&S management system, including preparation and dissemination of all relevant documentation, development of appropriate safety standards, reporting and information chains and emergency management.
* Produce management reports, newsletters and buliteins as required.
Job Requirements:
Key Skills, Knowledge and experience
· Minimum 10 years total experience in Industrial Safety, risk assessment and management, incident investigation techniques, and behavioral-based safety training with 3 - 5 years experience in the renewable energy or construction industry.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Ability to work in a team, coordinate and motivate colleagues and consultants.
· Strong initiative and the ability to proactively identify required tasks.
· Excellent attention to detail.
· Ability to maintain sight of the ‘big picture’ and overarching objectives at all times.
· Good IT skills, including experience with MS Word, Excel and Project packages and GIS capability.
· Bachelor degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience.
